I was reading that Westlake disliked The Jugger. I’ve read it several times and I really like it. I like the atmosphere of that dusty, rundown little town in Nebraska. The sadism of Younger is so real, I can’t wait to get past that part. The Parker books are so good, I just read them over and over again.
But apparently Westlake misremembered why he disliked The Jugger. He thought it bizarre to have Parker traveling to help a fellow heister out of a jam when in actuality Parker was heading there to more than likely kill Joe Sheer and thus eliminate any loose ends.
I reread the Parker novels more than any other of my treasured novels. Parker is the most utterly fascinating character I’ve yet come across. You have impeccable taste, Nora.
Apparently, there IS a God! Thank you, Mr. Darwyn Cooke and IDW, thank you thank you thank you! You’ve just made at least one man–me–and I’m sure many many others immeasurably joyful!:-)
Finally, the Parker novels in HC with cover and chapter illustrations by the Marvelous Mr. Cooke. This is better than winning a million dollars!
