Here’s a treat: William L. DeAndrea’s introduction to the Gregg Press edition of The Score.
Now I just need The Mourner and I’ll have the complete set posted.

Oh great! Thanks a lot for transcribing that. A real pleasure to read, with a couple of heretofore unknown Westlake novels mentioned. I love the anecdote about Butcher’s Moon being bought for $4! It took me over a year to find Butcher’s Moon when I first read the Parker series and I would have definitely paid top dollar for it. And, wow, worth every penny.
I got my copy for $5, but that was just dumb luck. Poor fellow had apparently never heard of eBay or Advanced Book Exchange.
Your mention of the price got me curious, so I plugged $4.00 1981 into an inflation calculator to see what the price would be now. $9.29. Who would complain about that?
One thing I forgot to mention in my post–I’ve never heard of Mr. DeAndrea. Has anyone read any of his stuff?
Is there a glitch in the introduction?
When somebody like Brian Garfield or Bill Pronzini mentions how Westlake (as Stark) and Joe Gores decided they would write a book using the same first chapter …
Westlake shared a common first chapter with himself: “Slayground” and “The Blackbird.” And Westlake shared a chapter with Gores, but Westlake as Westlake, not Stark, and not the first chapter (“Drowned Hopes” and “32 Cadillacs”). If I missed a shared first chapter between the two, I’d love to know the books involved!

Is there a mistake in the introduction? Westlake (as Stark) shared a first chapter, but with himself (“The Blackbird” and “Slayground”), and Westlake (as Westlake) shared a chapter with Gores (“32 Cadillacs” and “Drowned Hopes”), but it wasn’t the first chapter in either book.
If I missed a shared first chapter, I’d love to know where so I can buy both books.
Thanks,
Peter

I think it is an error–it isn’t a chapter, but a scene shared between Plunder Squad and Gore’s Dead Skip. I have Dead Skip but have not yet read it. I hope to read it soon.
Thanks. I’ll have to read Dead Skip then reread Plunde Squad. The shared scene between 32 Cadillacs and Drowned Hopes is hysterical.
