Grab-bag post: Promo for Donald Westlake e-books, Lawrence Block, Parker week at The Sindiecate

Here’s a nice two-minute promo for Donald Westlake’s e-books from Open Road/Mysterious Press, featuring Otto Penzler, Brian Garfield, Lawrence Block, and William Link (Columbo and Murder, She Wrote) speaking Westlake’s praises.

“Meet Donald Westlake”

Open Road has released thirteen Donald Westlake titles to date, including three rare sleaze titles co-authored with Lawrence Block and previously collected in the sumptuous Hellcats and Honeygirls omnibus from Subterranean Press pictured above. Don’t click that “Buy” link in the video, though. Please buy from here. Hey, moving is expensive. Every little bit helps.

Speaking of Subterranean Press and Lawrence Block…

When Hard Case Crime was on hiatus following the collapse of their arrangement with Dorchester Publishing and the beginning of their new arrangement with Titan Books, they struck a deal with Subterranean Press to release a one-off hardcover double of two early Lawrence Block titles, 69 Barrow Street and Strange Embrace. It has finally been released, over a year late.

If you are a Hard Case Crime collector or a Lawrence Block fan, buy it right this second. It will not be around for long. Copies of Hellcats and Honeygirls already go for a small fortune, and this is sure to follow. Right now it’s less than twenty bucks. It may have sold out while I’m typing this…

I got my copy a couple of days ago, and it’s beautiful, with cover art by the great Robert McGinnis of several Parker novels and about a million other things that make your life awesome.

Speaking of Parker…

I would have given this a full post ordinarily, but I’m about a month and a half late on it and I’m only writing this grab-bag post now because I’m taking a break (or procrastinating) from working on something you’ll really like. Not that you don’t like all of this great stuff, because of course you do. I mean something you’ll really like. Something very special. You’ll see.

I don’t know how I missed this, but The Sindiecate comic art website ran a Parker week back in late May/early June, featuring five original pieces inspired by Darwyn Cooke’s work. The one I’m featuring is by Colleen Coover.

Here are the links to all of the pieces, so you can see them in their full-sized glory:

Enjoy.
