The Hunter – A conversation with author Donald E. Westlake

In this short film, Westlake discusses Richard Stark, the Parker character, the challenges of bringing Parker into the modern world for the later books, and the film adaptations. Well worth watching.

Thanks to Ellis.

  • Oh man, can that interview please go on for another 50 minutes! He really was a charming, intelligent and well-spoken guy in person, wasn’t he. I love the way he compares Parker coming into New York to his own writing career, “You didn’t invite me to the party, but I’m still coming.”

Great stuff, thanks for posting it. Who is responsible for the film?

  • I have no idea who made the film. It’s an extra on the DVD of the director’s cut of Payback. I’d throw it in to see if I could find some credits, but I’m having technology issues at the moment.

Is the interview longer with director’s cut of Payback DVD ?

I enjoyed this interview immensely, seeing, listening to his own words, how he was.
